Smoked Turkey Melts with Bacon & White BBQ Sauce
When I was heading back to Birmingham recently after a trip to South Alabama, I stopped at Bate’s, as one does. I couldn’t just have my lunch there, I also got a smoked turkey breast to go to enjoy for many many more turkey sandwiches at home. As a result, I have been making the most delicious smoked turkey sandwiches, like these!
Alabama is known for their vinegar based white sauce. It goes well with really anything to me, but most specifically smoked turkey and smoked chicken. There aren’t many (if any) bbq places in the state that don’t have their own version of a white sauce. This smoked turkey melt with white bbq sauce elevates a typical turkey sandwich and the white sauce is so irresistible you’ll be dipping everything you can in it!

Ingredients
White BBQ Sauce
Instructions
- Combine mayo, sour cream, black pepper, vinegar, cayenne, garlic powder, onion powder and celery salt to a jar. Put lid on and shake vigorously to combine. Chill in fridge 30 minutes.
- While the white bbq sauce is chilling, cook the bacon. I prefer to cook mine on a foil lined baking sheet, in the oven at 375* for 10-15 minutes, watching very closely towards the end. This allows for minimal cleanup and even cooking. Drain bacon from fat and set aside.
- Coat one side of each piece of bread with butter. Coat the other side with white bbq sauce. After the sauce, layer one piece of cheese, tomato slice, bacon, turkey. Top turkey with second slice of cheese and top with other piece of bread.
- On a large non-stick skillet over medium heat and cook sandwiches over medium heat to melt the cheese and warm through, about 5 minutes, flipping once halfway through.
- Remove from skillet, slice and serve with extra white bbq sauce for dipping.
